Keeping Your Home Office Clean and Organized: Tips for a Productive Workspace

Your home office should be a space where productivity and focus come naturally. But keeping it tidy can sometimes feel like a challenge, especially with the mix of paperwork, devices, homeschool and everyday distractions.

In this blog, I’m sharing a few things I do to help maintain a clean and organized home office that encourages productivity and keeps stress at bay. Again when there is a lot of clutter around us it’s hard for us to focus.

  1. Declutter Your Desk Daily

A cluttered desk can lead to a cluttered mind. At the end of each day, spend a few minutes putting things back in their proper place—files, pens, papers, etc. When I keep my desk clear it creates a space to focus and helps set a productive tone for the next day. Walking into my office when my desk is nice and clean gets me ready for the day, I don’t feel overwhelmed by a mess.

  1. Use Organizational Tools

I like to utilize desk organizers, drawer dividers and filing cabinets to keep paperwork, supplies, and other office essentials in order. You can definitely create label files and create specific places for everything you use regularly. The more organized your space is, the easier it will be to find what you need. I like keeping things simple.

  1. Manage Cables and Electronics

I know many home offices have power strips for all the cords. I know I struggle with all the cords on my desk. I have my laptop charger, chargers for my kids phone, watch and ipads. Cords and cables can make your office look messy quickly. Use cable organizers or ties to keep cords out of sight and untangled. The items like the kid’s Ipads that we don’t charge everyday, I keep them in a basket under my desk and off my desk. Keeping devices in one area and out of the way will minimize distractions.

  1. Create a Paper Management System

Papers tend to pile up quickly, especially our homeschool papers. By establishing a paper management system with “in,” “out,” and “to-do” trays. I do this with folders for Isabella and JJ’s school papers. This keeps important documents visible without cluttering your workspace. Clutter drives me crazy.

  1. Clean the Office.

Just like any other room, your home office needs regular cleaning. Wipe down surfaces, dust shelves, and vacuum the floors weekly. A clean environment fosters a clear mind and allows you to focus better. I also make sure to clean the light fixtures and windows. It helps keep the place bright. Plus my puppy likes to look out one of the windows.

What is your biggest struggle with keeping your office clean? Mine is definitely the paperwork, the kids’ school stuff. When they are done with their school work they set it on my desk. I usually just have a laptop, planner and notebook on it.

I hope this is helping you. The next one up is kid’s bedroom.
