Husband’s Point of View: How Systems Saved Us

Hey there, mama! Today’s post is a bit different. I asked my husband, Jim, to share his perspective on what happened when life threw us a curveball and how the systems I’ve put in place made all the difference. Now, to say he was thrilled to write this would be a bit of an exaggeration, but with a beer in hand, he kindly agreed to share his side of the story. So, without further ado, here’s Jim’s take.

Jim’s Point of View:

When Billie asked me to help with this, I wasn’t exactly sure what she had in mind, but here goes! I’ve always tried to show appreciation for everything Billie does—managing the house, taking care of the kids, and balancing all the chaos that comes with being a mom and business owner. And while I do my share around the house (yes, more than just mowing the lawn and opening pickle jars), I didn’t realize how much she had truly set us up for success—until the day she got injured.

Billie broke a bone just above her foot, and suddenly, everything she usually did around the house was now on me and our younger kids. Our oldest, Lele, was with her grandma, so we were short-handed. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. I’d just started a new job that had me commuting further, and I wasn’t sure how we’d manage without Billie at full capacity.

But here’s where the magic of Billie’s systems kicked in.

You see, she had spent so much time creating checklists, organizing meal plans and prepping meals in advance that even with her sidelined, we weren’t completely lost. The cleaning checklist made it easy for me and the kids to keep the house somewhat under control. The meal prep and planning she had already done saved us from takeout every night. Breakfasts were easy since I taught the kids how to use the microwave safely and the crockpot meals were a lifesaver. Leftovers became lunches and snack time was a breeze thanks to her organization.

Now, don’t get me wrong—things weren’t as smooth as when Billie’s at the helm, but having those systems in place helped us avoid complete chaos. And we didn’t lose any kids along the way, so I’d call that a win.

Since then, I’ve found myself stepping up more around the house. I know when things need to get done and how to keep the house running smoothly. Husbands, take it from me—doing a random chore or two without being asked goes a long way in keeping your wife happy. Trust me on this.

A Busy Mom’s Secret Weapon

If you wanna know more on these systems, definitely my wife know. She would love to help you out.

Love,

Jimmy and Billie-Jo
