Steady Habits, Smooth Transitions: Easing Life Changes with Routine

I always say God has a funny way of working. Over a week ago I posted a blog about changes. How change can be good and hard, because Jimmy and I have gone through a lot of change in the last 11 months.

What I didn’t know was later that day after I posted that blog, we were going to have more change come our way. Once again this change threw us for a loop and again right before vacation. Jimmy’s job was changing again and moving him to a location further away. This change is super exciting for him, even though there is a little fear on his end.

This change actually hit me really hard. We just got into a really good groove for our family, so why now? Jimmy really wanted this opportunity and he deserved it after everything that happened. I supported his decision to say yes, even though it was hard for me to support it. Part of me wanted him to say no, but I know that was selfish for me. In fact as we were on vacation I was very quiet and reserved. I had to work through what was going on in my head. I had to work through some anger and hurt again. I went for a lot of walks, walking always helps me. I was able to talk to God and get some tears out. One morning I was watching the sunrise, I stopped and stood there and just cried. It was like all my emotions I was holding in, just came out. I finally felt like for the first time I could truly support Jimmy. I know God has a reason for everything that happened.

As Jimmy and I talked about things, a couple things popped into our minds.

In the book of Esther, Mordecai says to Esther, maybe you were created for such a time as this Esther 4:14). We don’t always understand why things happen or  why God chose now to change things again. But we do know that Jimmy was created for such a time as this. All the pain and hurt we went through made us stronger. It changed us a lot. We grew closer to God and we trust God’s plan, even though we don’t always understand it.

The second thing, I realized Satan was attacking me and making me believe that I couldn’t handle it all. But God really spoke to me one day on the beach when I was watching the sunrise. You can do this, look at everything you have done, all the systems you have put into place. Nothing really is going to change for the worse unless you let it. You’ve got this. You learned a lot in the past two years, now it’s your time to shine.

The one thing I know is God always has a plan.

Yes, I know my first response wasn’t great when this new opportunity came to him. At first I really felt like it would add a lot to my plate, but the truth is, it really isn’t going to. The biggest reason is I’ve created a lot of habits and easy routines in our home, that keep the chaos to the minimal. I will continue meal planning and prep because that right there keeps me sane. Also maintaining our home with our simple checklists and chores will continue to work. Will they change a little bit, yes but nothing crazy. The balance I have found in the past months might shift a little but it won’t overwhelm me. Because I’ve found ways to help create a balance that works for our family and myself.

This is something I’m so passionate about. So if you need help creating a balance that works for you and your family. One that empowers you to create simple routines that work for you and your family.

Yes things are changing and shifting, because the day Jimmy started the new position,  something kind of big happened. Stay tuned.

Love,

Billie-Jo
