RECIPE

Homemade Applesauce

My mom made applesauce all the time when I was growing up. I always remember the smell of it cooking, I mean it smells amazing and smells like Fall. It gives me all the Fall vibes. You know what else I remember about her applesauce? I remember her always putting cinnamon sticks in while it cooked. I love that extra cinnamon flavor that is added to it.

When you add the apples, make sure to only add 1 cup of water. You want to make sure it isn’t too thin. It really depends on how juicy your apples are. Add a little bit of lemon juice, cinnamon and brown sugar. Yes I said brown sugar. I think brown sugar adds a richer flavor and it is amazing.

After the apples cooked down, you use a potato smasher or wooden spoon. I used a spoon, I prefer my apple sauce a little but chunkier. Plus my smasher is in storage. I also added another 1/2 cup of water and the cinnamon sticks after I smashed down the apples. If you prefer a thinner applesauce add a little bit more water.

I was so happy I made this. It my house feel like Fall, well because it doesn’t look like Fall. All of my Fall decorations are in storage. Well, actually all of our decorations are in storage. We didn’t think we would be living in the apartment as long as we will be. So I will be baking and cooking my way through Fall and Christmas.

That’s the dish from my kitchen ????

Tips & Recommendations

You can use your favorite apples, but a few should be granny smith apples. I used 1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, but you can start with one and see if you want more. You don’t have to peel the apples, but I preferred them peeled.
